A huge hole in the sky? A stunning "rainfall waterfall" phenomenon spotted in Tainan

On the afternoon of July 8, Tainan experienced a remarkable natural phenomenon: a "rainfall waterfall." The sky appeared to have a giant hole in it, with heavy rain cascading down like a waterfall from the clouds. Meanwhile, the weather in other nearby areas stayed clear, making the scene extremely rare—and it was all captured by netizens, perfectly recording this astonishing spectacle.

In the afternoon, intense thermal convection developed over Tainan City, causing sudden loud thunder and heavy rainfall in some areas, while the weather remained fine elsewhere. This stark contrast between sun and rain is referred to as a "rainfall waterfall," which, when viewed from a distance, resembles a cascading waterfall.

This rare phenomenon was also captured by members of the public. The Deputy Director of the Central Weather Bureau praised the footage, noting that it was taken from an ideal vantage point—with perfect location, lighting, angle, and timing—making it a high-quality local record.
