A strong typhoon Maria's southern route to issue marine warnings fastest on Monday

Currently located about 2,200 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan, Maria is moving northwest at 12 kilometers per hour, with a 7-level wind radius of 200 kilometers. A marine warning could be issued as early as Monday the 9th, and it will be closest to Taiwan between the 10th and 11th. A land warning is not out of the question, and whether a typhoon day off will be declared depends on any path changes in the coming two days. Based on the current trajectory, it’s wise to start typhoon preparations early.

With its clear eye and thick cloud layers, Maria has been forecast by the U.S. as a “super typhoon.” Before it hits Fujian and Zhejiang, it is expected to first affect Taiwan’s weather. The weather bureau continues to issue heavy and torrential rain alerts, with many counties and cities across Taiwan at risk of heavy rainfall. From Sunday through next week, the weather will mostly be cloudy with showers, so remember to carry rain gear when going out.
