Its current trajectory is leaning left, possibly bringing it close to or even skimming across northern Taiwan. The storm circle is intensifying, with a clear eye visible, and its nearly symmetrical spiral cloud bands are forming. Japan's Meteorological Agency has predicted that Maria could develop into a severe typhoon by the weekend, and it will be closest to Taiwan next Tuesday and Wednesday (July 10 and 11), with the northern part of the island very likely to be affected by the typhoon.

The weather bureau today issued a heavy rain special warning for seven southern counties and cities. Areas including Changhua, Yunlin, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Chiayi County and City, and Pingtung may experience sudden heavy rainfall due to the influence of the southwest monsoon. As for whether Typhoon Maria’s approach will lead to a typhoon holiday, close observation over the next few days is needed.
