A Must-See This Summer: The Magical Blue Tears of Matsu Appear

Around April each year is the season when the blue tears of Matsu appear. During this time, the pale blue fluorescent sea looks particularly romantic, attracting many photography enthusiasts to chase the waves. On the evening of March 18, the first sighting of the 2015 blue tears was reported in Matsu, much to the anticipation of many travelers.

Local homestay operators reported that the first wave of blue tears this year was spotted starting on the 18th. Currently, small amounts of blue tears can be seen in Dongyin, Nangan, and Beigan. Although not abundant, the beautiful sight can still be captured using slow shutter speeds. Since 2012, when Matsu residents discovered the blue tears phenomenon, media coverage has attracted both domestic and international travelers to witness the spectacle. It is said that in the past, Matsu locals referred to this phenomenon as "Ding Xiang Shui" (Clove Water), as large gatherings of these organisms would attract swarms of clove fish to feed. It's important to note that such a beautiful sight is rare and fleeting. This phenomenon typically occurs between April and August. In addition to the right season, the sea must also have southern winds and waves to stir up the ostracods, creating the chance to witness this breathtaking scene.
