Taiwan has become one of the top ten hottest tourist destinations for Muslim travelers worldwide. The most comprehensive market research report on Muslim tourism, the “Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI),” points out that Malaysia tops the list of the world’s best Muslim travel destinations. Surprisingly, Taiwan not only ranks tenth but also surpasses the popular travel destination Japan. In 2014 alone, as many as 440,000 Muslim tourists visited Taiwan, making it a sought-after halal tourism destination!

The “Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI)” conducts an in-depth analysis of data from the world’s top 100 tourist destinations through various rating indicators and presents this comprehensive tourism index report. Among them, Malaysia ranks first among the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), followed by Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

Surprisingly, Taiwan ranks tenth among non-OIC countries, surpassing Japan. Last year alone, it attracted over 440,000 Muslim tourists, demonstrating that the scenic beauty of Taiwan is highly favored by Muslim visitors and is gradually becoming a popular halal tourism destination. Among non-OIC travel destinations, Singapore takes the lead, followed by Thailand, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and France.

In terms of overall score, Malaysia scores 83.8, followed by Turkey with 73.8 and the United Arab Emirates with 72.1. Notably, Taiwan scores 46.2, ranking tenth among non-OIC countries and 36th globally among the top 100 tourist destinations—a commendable performance.
