The section of the West Coast Expressway between the Siaogang Toll Station in Miaoli County and the Tongxiao Toll Station, after nearly 30 years of route selection, project suspensions, and other setbacks, has finally opened to traffic in early June this year. This new stretch not only reduces travel time, but also offers direct views of the beautiful coastline along the straight highway, with the surrounding scenery as picturesque as a painting.

Near the Gongchaoyun Temple in Tongxiao, Miaoli, the newly opened West Coast Expressway is flanked by low-rise houses, woods, and farmland, creating a unique rural charm. The unobstructed view of the coastline and skyline along the straight road feels like being in a foreign land, refreshing the spirit and reminiscent of the stunning beauty of Taiwan’s East Coast.
