Time-honored hotpot restaurant Fulian announces closure; old customers can't stop calling to make reservations

Taipei’s long-running all-you-can-eat Hong Kong-style hotpot restaurant “Fulian Hong Kong-Style Hotpot,” which has been in business for 15 years, recently announced on its social media page that it would be closing due to the expiration of its lease. The news not only shocked many foodies but also left numerous fans feeling sentimental.

“Fulian Hong Kong-Style Hotpot,” which had consistently good business, was well known for its classic Hong Kong-style cilantro flavors and its authentic Shaoxing chicken hotpot broth. It enjoyed high praise online and was even hailed by netizens as a must-visit Hong Kong-style eatery “you’d regret missing.” However, in recent years, rising rent, intense competition in the industry, and the lease expiring have made it impossible to keep going, forcing the restaurant to close. This has led to an outpouring of nostalgia and regret among netizens.

After the closure announcement, many fans and diners rushed to call and reserve a table, hoping to enjoy the restaurant’s 15-year-old signature broth and authentic Hong Kong flavors one last time before it shut down. But the high volume of calls reportedly left many unable to get through. Even the official fan page of the hotpot restaurant issued another notice saying that due to an overwhelming number of reservation calls and insufficient staff, phone reservations were being temporarily suspended.

Fulian Hong Kong-Style Hotpot had been open for 15 years and was beloved by foodies for its special Shaoxing chicken broth, peppered pork tripe broth, and all-you-can-eat format. Due to factors such as the lease expiring, its Keelung Road Tonghua branch closed on July 8, and its Civic Boulevard flagship store ceased operations on August 5. To savor the unchanged classic flavors that have lasted 15 years, hurry and revisit this time-honored hotpot before it’s gone for good.
