Only two people at a time allowed — Yunlin’s Gujing “Secret Lovers’ Bridge” feels like walking a tightrope through the jungle

There are lovers’ bridges all over Taiwan, but the most thrilling one is in Yunlin. The suspension bridge in Gujing’s Huashan area is an ultra-narrow path that only lets two people cross at once. Just a slight sway while standing on the bridge sends the ropes swinging wildly, and every step forward is packed with adrenaline, making it a new popular local attraction.

The Lovers’ Bridge is about a 30-minute walk from Huashan Coffee Street, a popular night-viewing spot in Yunlin. During a visit, reporters walked up along the Huashan Stream and saw vast green mountain scenery. To enhance the views, locals have planted a whole row of cherry blossom trees along the hillside in recent years. It's easy to imagine this place becoming a new cherry blossom viewing destination when the season arrives next year.

At the end of the trail, you’ll find the Huashan Stream Suspension Bridge, dubbed the “Little Sky Ladder.” Because of the elevation difference on both sides, the bridge is built in a stepped design. From the bridge, you can take in the natural beauty of Huashan. Climbing up the wooden staircase that winds along the hillside, you’ll reach the highest point where the Lovers’ Bridge stretches across the forest.

The Gujing Lovers’ Bridge is similar to the suspension bridge on Hualien Taroko’s Little ZuiLu Trail, consisting of two large woven cotton ropes forming the pathway that extends into the forest. But once you’re actually on it, you’ll feel even more intense swaying than on the Little ZuiLu bridge. The layers of dense forest stretching from the sky down to your feet make it feel like stepping into a lost secret world. Its uniquely different atmosphere has drawn many visitors eager for the challenge.
