Enjoy the galactic atmosphere up close！ A 15-meter Christmas tree lights up the ancient city of Tainan

The annual Christmas season is upon us！ Since 2005, the Tainan City Government has installed Christmas lights at key transportation hubs such as Tainan Railway Station and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, and has organized a series of tree-lighting and performance events in collaboration with churches and various organizations. This year’s theme is “Galactic Christmas,” featuring seven exhibition areas to celebrate the holiday with the public.

The event runs from November 27 to January 8 of next year, featuring two tree-lighting ceremonies. The lighting ceremony on the 4th of this month was officiated by Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te, who lit the 15-meter-tall Galactic Christmas Tree located at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, attracting large crowds and photography enthusiasts to join in the festive atmosphere.

The theme of this year’s Galactic Christmas envisions the entire Greater Tainan as a cosmic galaxy, where each district, big or small, shines brightly like a planet in the galaxy. The galaxy also symbolizes the flow of blessings through lights into the hearts of Tainan citizens and every visitor, bringing abundant joy and good wishes for the new year. The area also features some installation art for visitors to take photos with.

December 9 marks the second tree-lighting ceremony, to be held at the Nan Ying Hall Plaza of the Minzhi Municipal Government Center. The public is encouraged to join in sharing the joy, and more information can be found on the official event websites.
