A massive white cube lands in Asia – the world’s most unique church-like architecture

Located by China’s Yangcheng Lake, this unique white box building stands out prominently amid a natural landscape. The architecturally distinct Suzhou Chapel is a multifunctional structure planned by the Ying Resort Taihu wellness resort, serving multiple purposes including weddings, exhibitions, performances, and leisure activities.

Designed by the Shanghai-based architectural firm Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, Suzhou Chapel features a minimalist white box form that is highly eye-catching. Its exterior is clad in perforated folded metal panels resembling a sheer veil—reflecting sunlight during the day and glowing like a luminous object at night, giving off an ethereal feel.

The 12-meter-high main hall at the heart of the chapel is its core space, crafted with interwoven wooden louvers to create a sense of lightness. A series of pendant lights on the ceiling resemble a starry sky, while a specially designed mezzanine level offers an even more expansive view.
