The National Excellent Construction Awards is organized by the non-profit Chinese Real Estate Association of the Republic of China in collaboration with national construction industry, government, and academic sectors. It is the highest honor for annual construction achievements in Taiwan, aiming to bring global recognition to Taiwanese architecture. Award winners may also be nominated to represent Taiwan in the “Global Excellent Construction Awards.”
The “Longen Canal Blue Belt Waterfront Landscape Project” was awarded the Gold Prize in the “Best Planning and Design Category
The lush greenery of Long’en Canal.
Long’en Canal has introduced a number of innovative and creative facilities that have been recognized with the Gold Quality Award. These include the “Wind Chime High Lamp,” whose light source is positioned higher than the trees to ensure safe illumination, prevent glare, and support wildlife habitats. The “Aquatic Plant Railings” replace traditional galvanized steel railings with slender steel structures, allowing the railings to blend seamlessly with the surrounding greenery. These features enable people of all ages to easily access and enjoy the space both day and night.
Among these, the Long’en Canal and Guanpu Elementary School project, which won the “Best Planning and Design Category” Gold Quality Award, was designed by architect Huang Sheng-yuan and his team at Fieldoffice Architects. Huang Sheng-yuan recently received the National Award for Arts and has garnered numerous accolades both in Taiwan and internationally. Having dedicated over 20 years to Yilan, his works harmonize with the local natural environment and engage deeply with communities. The Long’en Canal and Guanpu Elementary School are the only two projects outside of Tamsui’s Cloud Gate Theatre where Fieldoffice Architects has worked beyond Yilan. Huang Sheng-yuan and the Fieldoffice team also recently represented Taiwan at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale, showcasing Taiwan's architectural design prowess on the international stage.
