Speaking of Vietnam, if the only places that come to mind are Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long Bay, and Hanoi, you can’t really say you’ve been to Vietnam—because there are many “hidden gems” waiting for travelers to explore deeply. Take Northern Vietnam’s Sapa, for example. Located 1,650 meters above sea level, it boasts unspoiled natural landscapes and borders China’s Yunnan Province. It is an isolated mountain town with, most notably, its beautiful and vast terraced fields, which have been recognized by the American travel magazine Travel Leisure as one of the “Seven Most Beautiful Terraces in the World”!

If you’re looking to experience seaside life, Mui Ne, just 200 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, not only offers sweeping deserted beaches and traditional fishing towns but also boasts breathtaking red and white sand dunes. The white sand dunes reportedly span over 50 hectares, with dramatic undulations and height differences of up to ten-plus meters, resembling the steep canyons seen in movies. For the best view of the red sand dunes, head there in the evening when the sunset and afterglow bathe the dunes in vibrant hues.

The red sand dunes are hills formed by years of accumulation of reddish-brown sand and are a highly popular photo spot. Slightly smaller than the white dunes, the red dunes are also more accessible to travelers. Standing atop the hill, you might feel as though you’re in the Sahara Desert, enjoying both sunrise and sunset. After seeing the red dunes, don’t miss the white ones—you can go sandboarding or ride a dune buggy here to experience the thrill of plunging through the sands.

As for Vietnamese street food, don’t assume it’s limited to the pho and spring rolls you may have tried in Taiwan. Authentic Vietnamese cuisine is incredibly diverse. Don’t underestimate small roadside stalls—they serve authentic pho, grilled meats, and generous platters of fresh seafood. There’s also the humble filtered coffee found in alleyways—a staple local coffee made by wrapping coffee grounds in cloth and brewing them in a pot before pouring over ice and sweetened condensed milk. It’s a completely unique brewing method and rich in local character.
