Taoyuan Airport plans to launch "capsule hotels"! Expansion of Terminal 2 targets growing transfer passenger business

Passenger traffic at Taoyuan Airport continues to grow. To maintain service standards, plans are underway to expand Terminal 2. The future Terminal 2 will feature additional self-service check-in counters, automated baggage drop-off, scenic elevators, and more. Recognizing the business potential of transfer passengers, the airport is also evaluating the introduction of an observation deck and capsule hotels. Initial plans are to adopt a pricing model similar to those of Incheon Airport in South Korea and Hong Kong Airport, with basic rates starting from a minimum of 3 hours.

Last year, Taoyuan Airport served 38.47 million passengers, exceeding the original combined capacity of 32 million for both terminals. Therefore, plans to expand Terminal 2 are being proposed, adding approximately 20,778 square meters to address space shortages. Among these plans, Taoyuan Airport aims to build a "capsule hotel" as part of the Terminal 2 expansion, intending to adopt a pay-by-the-hour model similar to Incheon Airport in South Korea and Hong Kong Airport, with a base charge starting from 3 hours. The airport has now outsourced the evaluation of hotel size, projected passenger demand, and fee-based operational models.

Additionally, after the expansion of Terminal 2, self-service check-in counters, automated baggage drop-off, scenic elevators will be added, along with increased waiting areas, transfer passenger lounges, and duty-free retail spaces. This is expected to accommodate around 5 million more passengers per year.
