This cover photo isn’t a stock image pulled from the internet—it’s all Christmas dishes made by Mama Yeh herself with her own two hands!! Can you believe it?! Mama Yeh single-handedly prepared enough food for 30 people, and even she was impressed by herself!
Ever since Papa Yeh proposed to Mama Yeh on Christmas in 1999 (year 98 in Taiwan’s calendar), and Baby Yeh also decided to make his entrance on Christmas in 2000 (year 99), Christmas has become Mama Yeh’s favorite and most special day of the year—and also the busiest. Starting in 2001 (year 100), Mama Yeh began hosting a Christmas party, mainly to celebrate Baby Yeh’s birthday. Now this year marks the fourth year—time really flies, and that little one is already turning four!!
At every party, Mama Yeh would make some small snacks, but last year she ended up preparing almost all the food. Looking back now, she wonders where she got the crazy energy to do something so wild. At first, her family even laughed at her, saying there was no point putting in all that time and effort—it definitely wouldn’t work out, and it’d be better just to buy ready-made food. Perhaps it was those discouraging words that fueled her determination even more, turning the impossible into the possible!
These were the first cupcakes Mama Yeh ever made, staying up all night baking them in a small oven!
She still remembers setting up this blog to document the grand achievements of the 2013 (year 102) Christmas party, but somehow it got postponed until the new Christmas season arrived before she finally started writing. Luckily, some of the photos are still around—if not, she wouldn’t have been able to share these ideas. Looking at the photo in the cover image, which dish are you most eager to learn how to make!? Hard to choose!? Mama Yeh will start with the easiest one first!
Tuna PieFinely dice the onion, mix it with canned tuna, add a bit of salt and pepper, stir well, then place an appropriate amount on top of a RITZ cracker to finish
Cheese Tomato: Dice the cheese, cut the tomato in half, secure with a toothpick, sprinkle a little pepper, and it’s done
Smoked SandwichSlice the croissant in half (but don’t cut all the way through), add smoked chicken and lettuce, squeeze a bit of salad dressing on top, and you’re done!
This one is super simple too—just cut the German sausage you bought in half lengthwise, then make a diagonal cut on one of the segments. Assemble them into an “L” shape, secure with a toothpick, spread some cream cheese on top, and you’re done!! With this Christmas sock, doesn’t it feel like the holiday spirit? Mama Mei won’t go into detail about this one again ^^
①. Devein the fresh shrimp, then cut into bite-sized pieces depending on their size
②. Marinate them briefly with rice wine, salt, lemon, and pepper
③. Before frying, coat the shrimp in egg wash, then roll in breadcrumbs, and deep-fry until they turn a beautiful golden brown
④. Cut a slice of toast into four small pieces, lightly toast them in the oven, then place a piece of toast on the plate, add some romaine or leaf lettuce, a bit of salad, and top with the fried shrimp. Secure with a toothpick and it’s done!! If you like Dijon mustard, you can also replace the salad with that—it tastes great too ^^
Trim the edges of the toast, cut it into two long ovals, spread custard filling in the middle, then place some washed and de-stemmed fresh strawberries on top. Skewer with a toothpick, and it’s done!! This strawberry dessert is really easy to make and super delicious—any girl would be unable to resist it, and it basically sells out in seconds!!
This dessert plate also sells out instantly, but it takes a bit more time to prepare. The fruits inside can be customized based on your preferred flavors
Mama Mei has already written another article about this method before, so I won’t go over it again here Up!! [Parent-Child Food DIY] Super Eye-Catching Party Desserts!!
The grand finale is this tree—Christmas wouldn’t be complete without its iconic decoration, the Christmas tree!!! Mama Mei’s home didn’t have a Christmas tree, so we had to DIY one. It’s not only pretty but also edible, killing two birds with one stone, awesome right?? Yes, this tree is made by stacking sushi. Mama Mei used regular white rice mixed with vinegar, cooked into sushi rice in a rice cooker (use half to one cup less water than usual when cooking rice)
For the sushi rolls, spread the rice first, then place the nori sheet on top, and add the fillings (Mama Mei just added egg sheet, corn, pork floss, and cucumber for simplicity), then roll it tightly
Sprinkle with seaweed powder on the surface, then slice the sushi into equal thicknesses and arrange on a plate. Finally, decorate with cranberries and top with star-shaped chocolate—the cute, eye-catching, and delicious Christmas tree is done Up!!! When everyone saw this tree, no one dared to eat it, afraid of ruining it. But after Mama Mei gave the go-ahead to dig in, the tree was soon leveled ^^
All the dishes from the party that day (the mini pizza didn’t make it into the frame). Seeing all the food reduced to empty plates, Mama Mei was over the moon—it meant everyone enjoyed the meal
Above are all great ingredients suitable for parties. Mama Mei especially recommended these bite-sized dishes (except for the smoked sandwich), mainly hoping that while everyone is happily celebrating, they can enjoy their food in one bite without worrying about crumbs or mess
The look for Mui Zai's third birthday—no matter how tired I was, seeing this adorable little mouse made it all worth it.
Looking forward to the joint birthday party for the twins this year. Hope it ends perfectly, and I’ll share my experience with everyone then!* If you’re also wondering how to prepare Christmas (PARTY) food, you might want to check out these creative dishes. Thanks for watching, hope you liked it. See you next time, Up.
