From now until December 31, Burger Lab at Taipei’s Tiancheng Hotel is offering a limited-time-only “Okonomiyaki Burger,” blending Japanese flavors with the classic American hamburger. From 11:00 to 14:00, add just NT$49 to any single burger order to enjoy a serving of the signature “Layered Potatoes with Cheese Meat Sauce” and a drink.
Traditional Japanese “okonomiyaki” is made by layering ingredients on an iron plate and pan-frying them together, including shredded cabbage, bacon, yakisoba noodles, and more — a complex cooking process that bears a surprising resemblance to the layered construction of a hamburger. Executive Chef Wei Jingzhen from Tiancheng Hotels’ Western Cuisine Creative Development team came up with the “Okonomiyaki Burger,” starting with a base layer of stir-fried shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, and bacon. This is then topped with a pork patty made using the ideal 80:20 lean-to-fat ratio, and finished with a sunny-side-up egg and a sprinkle of seaweed powder on top.
In addition to the brand-new “Okonomiyaki Burger,” diners can also enjoy another signature dish — the “Layered Potatoes” — along with a drink for just an extra NT$49 during lunch hours.
