I’ve always loved chiffon cake, so I was excited to visit the newly opened chiffon cake specialty shop Migo’s Cakes蜜?拾伍, located near Shuanglian Station. It was founded by two women driven by their passion for baking and a spirit of culinary adventure. In addition to their signature chiffon cakes, the shop also offers savory sandwiches and other Western-style pastries. The drink menu features coffee and tea as staples, along with special fruit-infused beverages.

%The space exudes a refined charm with an airy atmosphere. The small shop has about 20-plus seats and avoids overly ornate decor, creating a very comfortable vibe.

%The interior is simple yet cozy.

Currently, Migo’s Cakes蜜?拾伍 offers five chiffon cake flavors: lemon, banana, sesame, berry, and Matcha from Jingliuyuan. Each chiffon cake comes in two options: plain cake ($170) or with filling (+$20). The menu changes seasonally based on available ingredients, and a strawberry flavor is set to launch in January.

Migo’s Cakes蜜?拾伍’s hollow chiffon cake is first coated with a layer of homemade berry jam, then spread with fresh cream, and topped with blueberries. The shop uses freshly molded chiffon cakes prepared that morning and whips the fresh cream to order, so there’s about a 15-minute wait from ordering to serving. The moist and elastic cake pairs well with fresh blueberries and raspberries, or with a dab of the homemade jam and fresh cream. Its mildly sweet and tangy flavor is quite pleasant.

Migo’s Cakes蜜?拾伍’s light yellow cake is dotted with green specks resembling lemon zest, giving off a subtle lemon aroma. The middle is filled with freshly whipped cream and topped with homemade yellow lemon sauce. However, the lemon sauce is quite tart and can overpower the cake’s flavor. It’s recommended to use just a small amount of the lemon sauce alongside the cream for a fresher taste.

Made with Michel Cluizel chocolate, the dessert is presented on a white plate garnished with self-brewed brandy-flavored raisins and vanilla ice cream, sprinkled with sugar that resembles snowflakes. A small bite reveals a slightly crispy outer layer and a soft inside with the bitter-sweetness of chocolate and a hint of brandy. Paired with the vanilla ice cream, this cool brownie delivers a rich, adult-oriented flavor.

If you enjoy toast that’s crispy but not dry, this sandwich comes with smoked chicken thigh, crisp apple slices, and cucumber. The fillings are tasty, though the curry sauce could be richer. Fresh lettuce is served with a self-made sweet fruit salad dressing, and the yogurt has a self-made kiwi sauce with a nice sweet-tangy flavor. The portion size is just right, though the overall experience isn’t particularly memorable.

Made with 100-year-old Kyoto tea house Jingliuyuan’s matcha and fresh milk from Tainan’s Hexiang Ranch. The portion is moderate with a refreshing taste. The matcha has a slight sweetness accompanied by a milky aroma.
Right: Pineapple-passionfruit toast $150
It contains fresh pineapple pulp and passionfruit. We both thought it was a bit too sweet – reducing the sweetness would improve it.

Postscript
Having started learning how to bake cakes a month or two ago, my perspective on desserts has changed. Chiffon cake, which only requires five ingredients – eggs, milk, oil, sugar, and flour – may seem simple in terms of ingredients for a delicious and presentable cake, but it’s actually quite complex. The owner of Migo’s Cakes蜜?拾伍, who is also the sole pastry chef, draws on her chiffon baking experience learned in Japan. She uses local Tainan fresh milk and eggs, along with Japanese low-gluten flour and rice oil, combining them with her own recipe. I appreciate how Migo’s Cakes蜜?拾伍 transforms what might otherwise be ordinary chiffon cakes into charming and elegant treats.
