Every spot that Xiaohai finds always brings great surprises. Today we’re at “Jiafu Temple” in Jiali, Tainan — it looks like an ordinary temple at first glance, but it actually hides tons of fun things. Let’s take a look at what treasures lie inside and what secrets it holds.
“Jiafu Temple” has long been a popular and bustling place of worship. It was founded during the 50th year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty, the year of Xinmao (1711 AD). That means it has a history of over 300 years — quite an old temple indeed.
It’s said that there are some small stone statues of young monks placed in front of the temple, which are really fun~ Actually, I quite like these little monk statues. Maybe it’s because I watched “Ikkyu-san” (The Little Monk) as a child and was quite influenced by this cartoon, leaving a deep impression~
Jiafu Temple not only has a vast grounds, but even its parking lot is quite large too. As soon as you park your car, what greets you is one surprise after another. First up are the splendidly blooming “hollyhocks,” which were absolutely gorgeous. It was Rongrong’s first time seeing hollyhocks. At that moment, she only remembered that it was a flower variety recently shared by many people—she had just completely forgotten the name. She went home to look it up and learned that it was indeed the hollyhock. She also found out that hollyhocks are actually quite tall. At first glance, their flowers somewhat resemble those of cosmos.
The temple mainly enshrines Guanyin Bodhisattva, the Heavenly Holy Mother, the Goddess of Childbirth, the God of Literature, and others. It is said that during the time of Zheng Chenggong, he led soldiers and civilians who set up camp here. In front of the temple, there is the South Sea Serenity Garden and an old-fashioned waterside castle landscape. The elegant and comfortable environment and the tranquil space help soothe the soul.
I think the most thoughtful aspect here, aside from the children's playground, is this barbecue leisure area. Kids can play around freely while adults can relax and enjoy barbecuing without worry. It’s perfect for families or groups of friends to come together. However, barbecue area spots must be reserved in advance. The children’s facilities are also diverse, including slides, swings, and some physical activity equipment, though these are more suitable for older kids, and adult supervision is required for safety.
Now comes the main highlight—the “roller slide,” which is the favorite amusement facility among children.
Before sliding down, there's a space on the left side for placing wooden boards, which is quite similar to the concept of a water park. Before going down a water park slide, you usually grab a float board first and then glide down the slide. However, the wooden boards here come in different sizes. The larger ones allow both adults and children to play together, while the smaller ones are designed for older kids who can have fun independently. Even adults can't resist the fun and often join in for a playful ride.Step up the stairs, lay down the wooden board, and you’re ready to slide down. The slide has a slight slope, so no need to push forward—it’ll glide smoothly thanks to gravity. Some kids slide a bit slowly going forward, so I usually tap the brakes a little and wait a moment before letting them go.
These play facilities are really suitable for the current age of little Yia. The slide is a bit too high for her and might scare her a bit, but this roller slide is especially not fast, and she had so much fun playing on it. Located in Jiali, Tainan, “Jiafu Temple” not only serves as a place for worship but also offers barbecue, recreation, and a children’s playground space, full of surprises—it’s really perfect for gathering with close friends or bringing the whole family.
