Our one-day trip to Hsinchu last week was really rewarding. With it being a long holiday, we were worried that popular destinations would be packed, and that wouldn’t allow little Yia to run around freely. So we asked Xiao Hai to plan a trip to a nearby city or county. Strangely enough, ever since we had little Yia, Xiao Hai has been taking us to fewer towns. In Baoshan Township, we discovered a European-style Catholic church — quiet, peaceful, and without the worry of Yia running around in crowds and disturbing others. After leaving Baoshan Township, we were pleasantly surprised by another attraction: this mushroom house!! To be honest, we literally stumbled upon this spot. Originally, Xiao Hai had planned to take us to the “Forestry Culture Park” near Zhudong Railway Station to find parking, and then the three of us strolled into the park. When we saw the train, something felt off? The area that was supposed to have exhibits was completely empty, with nothing to see at all!! Xiao Hai was baffled and kept saying, “That’s not how it’s supposed to be, right?” (It’s only natural to feel a bit affected when things don’t go as planned!) At that point, he refused to give up and wandered all over the park, feeling certain he must have gone to the wrong place. He told us to wait where we were while he searched for the intended destination.

We used the time to stroll leisurely with little Yia and took some outdoor photos of her too %tech img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-88054" src="/travel/pic/20180526/e7428e18819c6df90f4dd80b5cf9ce83.jpg" alt="[Family Travel Attractions]Zhudong Visitor Center" width="800" height="534" />
Although the place was empty, it turned out to be the perfect space for little Yia. The sun was strong that day, and she was sweating a lot. We made sure to keep her hydrated and held an umbrella over her, afraid she might get sunburned. To bystanders, the mother-daughter duo probably looked like a little princess on a parade, with a servant holding an umbrella to shield her from the sun, and so on!! On a side note, even though it was empty, there were still quite a few cute decorative pieces, especially this little Buddha figure, which was adorable and fun, adding more liveliness and vibrancy to the space~ %tech br /> (Recommended Reading:)
When we reached this patch of grassland, we spotted a Japanese-style building up ahead, where “Hsinchu’s Friend Hebe” was promoting great places to visit in Neiwan, Hsinchu. Just then, Xiao Hai called out loudly from near the Japanese building: “Come quickly, look over here!! I found it!! I found it!!” At first, we thought he’d finally found our original destination, but it turned out his excited shouting was because he’d spotted this adorable mushroom house. When we heard that, we even asked, “Is it that super popular mushroom house recently?” Xiao Hai, panting, said, “Yes!! It’s that one!! And even cooler, there’s more than just one mushroom house!!” That got me hurrying over, eager to see this healing-themed mushroom house. In person, it was honestly super cute. Who would’ve thought we could see such an adorable mushroom house without even traveling far!? %tech/p>
Discovering this spot was truly unexpected. The original attraction we wanted to see turned out to be empty, which led Xiao Hai to search relentlessly. Though we didn’t find the main site, we unexpectedly discovered this new highlight. Since I didn’t have the chance to stay in a famous mushroom house in Hualien, being able to take close-up photos with one here is pretty great too!! One special thing is that this mushroom house is right next to Zhudong Railway Station, and even beside the visitor center. Looking through the window, the mushroom house doesn’t seem to have any interior decoration yet, so it’s probably not completed just yet!! In a few more days, I believe it will become the cutest visitor center, and everyone will know that right next to Zhudong Visitor Center, there’s such an adorable mushroom house %tech br /> (Recommended Reading:)
There are also some themed installations around the mushroom house, along with cute animal and insect figures, playful and adorable, making you feel like you’re really seeing a mushroom house in the forest %tech/p>
