Shopping addicts, take note: A complete guide to Taiwan’s department store anniversary sales

The annual anniversary sales of department stores have arrived. Although women shop regardless of time or place, the anniversary sales still roll out numerous discounts and promotions to tempt shoppers’ wallets. Therefore, knowing the sales schedule of each department store, as well as their offers and product discounts, is definitely one of the essential tasks for women.

This year’s anniversary sales kicked off with Taipei 101, followed by Breeze Center and Core Pacific City. As for Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, it followed its usual practice with the Nanshi branch leading the way, staggering its sale period with the Xinyi branch to create two separate phases. Far Eastern Department Store started with Taichung’s Mitsukoshi. Overall, considering the schedules across major department stores in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, the anniversary sales season generally spans from mid-September to mid-December.

Since Taipei 101 and Breeze Center were the first to launch their anniversary sales, the currently known offers at Taipei 101 include: international luxury brands — 1,200 NTD rebate for the first purchase of 10,000 NTD or more, up to a maximum 12% rebate; jewelry and watches — 1,800 NTD rebate for every 30,000 NTD spent, up to a maximum 9% rebate; fashion, beauty, and fragrances — 500 NTD rebate for every 5,000 NTD spent. Breeze Center offers exclusive deals for co-branded cardholders: 1,600 NTD rebate for a single purchase of 30,000 NTD at designated counters on the 1st floor, 1,100 NTD rebate for a single purchase of 10,000 NTD on international luxury items, 600 NTD rebate for a single purchase of 5,000 NTD on fashion and brand-name goods, and 400 NTD rebate for a single purchase of 3,000 NTD on other floors.

Each department store has different anniversary sale periods. To attract crowds and boost sales, department stores often roll out various promotional activities such as spend-and-save offers, limited-quantity queue items, exclusive combo deals, visit gifts, and spending-based gifts. Therefore, it's essential to do your basic homework in advance:
1. Focus your purchases at the same department store to accumulate more discount benefits, for example: the store’s own spend-and-save promotions, or brand-specific spending gifts.
2. Pay attention to gift voucher usage restrictions, for example: limitations on where they can be used, validity periods, and current discounts.
3. Compare product prices, for example: check whether different department stores offer varying prices or promotional bundles, and figure out where you get the best deal.
