Every time I travel, I feel so relaxed. I truly believe Taiwan is a treasure island. It’s not that I don’t want to travel abroad, but the cost—flying all five of us out—is quite a hefty expense. So for now, M Ma and I (the cool parents!) still plan to take our three treasures on domestic trips. And with just one-third of our usual overseas travel budget, we can eat well and stay comfortably. Honestly, that’s more than enough for us to be happy with!

In recent years, many traditional industries have transformed into tourist factories, and many even offer hands-on DIY experiences. Just exploring the tourist factory route alone, I think, would be enough to keep our three treasures entertained to the max!Family Travel: Make Stylish Cake Towels as DIY Crafts in HuweiFor Nicole’s first winter vacation, we decided to head to Yunlin. Since we chose to stay at the Chien Hsin Prince Hotel, we started looking up nearby attractions. The first place we visited was the iicake Cake Towel Museum in Huwei, Yunlin. Opened in 2013, it has been around for over two years now. With its blue-and-white color scheme and Mediterranean-style architecture, it’s located right by the main road and is very eye-catching. The quirky little quotes on the gate railings are quite charming. The Cake Towel Café doesn’t just sell cute towels—it actually serves cakes and drinks too. That’s why there’s an outdoor seating area. We arrived with less than an hour before closing, so there were only one or two other guests. But because there weren’t many people, I felt a bit shy about taking too many photos (I’m a bit of a chicken at heart). The towel designs there were incredibly diverse—I truly think the designers have amazing creativity. There are themed designs released from time to time, which really fits the name of the museum, Up. The cake-shaped towels (there were probably six or so ^^) are just adorable. Besides the decorative towels, they also offer gift box packaging, making them perfect for baby shower gifts.

There were many other cute towel designs at the site, but I had to keep an eye on the three treasures so they wouldn’t touch everything, so I couldn’t photograph them all. I’m sure the designs here are constantly being updated, and maybe next time I visit, I’ll discover something new!

Walking further back, you can see the production area. Through transparent glass, you can clearly watch the process of making the shaped towels. Of course, they’ve also set up some great photo spots for visitors to snap pictures.

After checking out the first floor, it’s time to head up to the second floor, Up. Time was limited, so I quickly let the three treasures try their hand at folding towels as a DIY activity (upon closer look, the stairs even introduce the museum characters—so cute!). On the second-floor landing hangs a giant towel—yes, a towel. How unique. The second-floor floor is transparent, with animal-shaped towels displayed beneath it, resembling a little petting zoo. There’s also a towel made to look like a big lantern. The second floor is mainly the DIY classroom area. Today, the three treasures happened to make the last rabbit BE towel design at 5 PM (it’s a paid activity). They absolutely adored the bunny towels they made themselves ^^

For moms and dads who want to bring their little ones for some fun, here’s a reference: Making towel DIYs was a lot of fun for the three treasures. However, parts that require gripping the towel firmly or looping rubber bands still needed a bit of adult help. Having them complete the crafts entirely on their own was a bit challenging. The entire venue isn’t very large, but the variety of shaped towels is quite rich. Plus, there’s DIY fun to be had—making it a pretty nice spot for family trips!
