Due to our location, we usually prioritize campsites north of Taichung. Miaoli is a popular camping destination, and with a shorter drive, you can spend more quality time at the campsite. Liziping in Miaoli County is located north of Zhuolan City. Originally an area focused on producing organic vegetables, flowers, and pears, it has been approved by the Council of Agriculture as a leisure agriculture zone after transformation. The Liziping Leisure Agriculture Area includes tourist orchards, homestays, estates, specialty restaurants, farms, and campsites, among which the highly recommended "Shuiyu Niguang 'Garden Camping'" is part of this area. It’s not only conveniently accessible but also allows you to incorporate fruit picking and nature walks into your itinerary.
(Recommended read:) We were initially drawn in by the photos of the lush green lawn. Out of curiosity about family-friendly campsites, we checked out the “Shuiyu Niguang 'Garden Camping'” Facebook fan page. As we read on, we discovered the campsite owner’s dream—“communal cooking and dining,” and “bringing home life outdoors”—which aligned so well with our own reasons for loving camping. So we immediately booked the A-area large lawn site, a favorite among children, via their online reservation system (phone reservations are not accepted).
“Your own moving castle, your own setup.” Stepping into the site feels like entering a romantic European estate, while also sensing the campsite owner’s ambition to create a mini-European town. Notably, as part of the leisure agriculture zone, Shuiyu Niguang has its own orchard and vegetable garden—you don’t need to drive elsewhere. The camp grows seasonal fruits and vegetables, including fresh tomatoes, strawberries, and dragon fruit in season, with cabbages as the main vegetable, along with cucumbers and pumpkins. The farm shop sells freshly harvested produce at friendly prices, allowing campers to buy and cook on-site.

A playground paradise for kids
The spacious country-style garden is divided into four main zones: “A-Area Large Lawn,” “B1-Area Whisper Zone” (a private area with bathroom and sandpit), “C-Area Back Garden” (includes VIP Garden and Back Garden, and pets are allowed if the area is reserved), and “Sunshine House Homestay.” The entire site has 99 pitches, with the largest C-Area accommodating up to 42 pitches at once.
The very photogenic European-style cabins are no longer available for booking. For those without a tent who still want to experience camping with others, the affordable Sunshine House Homestay is a great choice. It offers standard rooms and suites (all with bedding and toiletries), equipped with bathroom facilities, a children’s sandpit, and a log cabin slide. The environment is comfortable, suitable for elderly guests or those wanting to try “semi-camping.” The A-Area Large Lawn has 31 available pitches, each 5×8 meters, with parking space right beside each pitch. The B1-Area Whisper Zone features a separate sandpit, so even if children play noisily, it won't disturb other campers.

Since the summer of 2016, the C-Area Back Garden has taken on a new look, almost as if touched by magic. The campsite owner carefully planned a children’s playground paradise. The lawn gained a dreamy little wooden cabin where kids can play house and slide down into the sandpit—“whoosh!”—landing in a pile of sand, both thrilling and fun. There’s also a huge chalkboard where children can unleash their creativity, sparking endless imagination. Kids go wild, and even adults get excited. Camping here on the large lawn gives a feeling of openness in the wilderness. Both adults and children take off their shoes to feel the earthy fragrance beneath their feet. The lawn is as soft as carpet and doesn’t leave your feet damp (those with experience will know this comfort!). The campsite owner takes great care in maintaining the grass, using two months in 2016 as a rest period for the turf, which reduced income but allowed the land to recover and the grass to grow even better. After setting up tents, everyone gets into their own groove—some relax aimlessly, while others gather in the living tent to chat about everything under the sun. At night, string lights are lit, and late-night snacks are enjoyed accompanied by the gentle sounds of nature, creating a small romantic atmosphere.

Toilets and sanitation facilities
In the A-Area Large Lawn, two tents share a sink equipped with a water filter. The wastewater drain has a dedicated sewage pool, ensuring hygiene and environmental protection. Trash bins, recycling bins, and food waste bins are placed next to the sink for easy sorting. There’s a delightful hidden surprise in the site: a cute Hello Kitty toilet seat in the private “B1-Area Whisper Zone,” which also has independent bathroom facilities. Our campsite in the “Large Lawn Area” shares washing facilities with the “VIP Garden Area,” but there’s no worry about insufficient facilities or a messy environment.
Bathroom facilities include: Sakura water heater, TOTO bathroom fixtures, wet/dry separation design, low clothing cabinets, parent-child bathrooms, ladies’ bathrooms, with toilet paper and hairdryers provided.
Helpful tips
1. Pets are not allowed in the campsite.
2. When using any stoves, grills, or portable cookers, place a heat-insulating pad under the appliance. When barbecuing, use a grill at least 30 cm above the ground with an insulating pad underneath to protect the lawn.
3. High-power electrical appliances are not permitted anywhere in the campsite. Karaoke and video playback are also prohibited.
4. Fireworks, sky lanterns, water guns, and water balloons are not allowed.

Fun games and a nature classroom that delight both adults and kids
When we hold each other close
Recommended number of players: More than 20 people makes it more fun
Required tools: None

How to Play
1 First, designate a host. The others form a large circle, holding hands and walking in a circle.
(Recommended reading:) 2 As everyone walks in the circle, they sing. The host can call out any number at any time. For example, if the host shouts “5,” players must immediately find the nearest people around them to form a group of five, hug together, and then squat down quickly. Those who are too slow to find partners or get the wrong number are eliminated. The last person(s) remaining is/are the winner(s).
3 During the game, you can design your own penalties to make it more fun, such as asking the eliminated players to write numbers with their buttocks (fun little punishments can be assigned by the referee).
