Koreans Are Obsessed: Taiwanese Sandwiches Invade Seoul and Become an Instagram Hotspot

The old-fashioned sandwiches sold everywhere seem to be a staple of Taiwanese breakfasts. With various ingredients like eggs, ham, and cucumbers, they come in multiple flavors that are widely loved. Now, a renowned Taiwanese old-fashioned sandwich brand “Hong Rui Zhen Sandwich” has expanded to South Korea, opening its first overseas branch in the bustling Hongdae district. Shortly after its launch, it has attracted crowds of visitors.

Hong Rui Zhen Sandwich’s Seoul branch has created quite a buzz in South Korea since its opening in March this year. Not only is the store design adorable, featuring clean white tiles and glass cabinets that give off a fresh vibe, but it also moves away from the traditional elements of old Taiwanese shops. With a small, cute sandwich logo printed on it, the store exudes a stylish and trendy feel both inside and out.

In addition to breaking away from traditional store design, the sandwich packaging is also simple and adorable. The sandwiches are packed in colorful boxes. Though not overly embellished, they are still hard to put down. The packaging matches the store’s refreshing style perfectly, making for great photo opportunities.

Hong Rui Zhen Sandwich in South Korea offers only three flavors: the commonly seen ham, cheese, and a combination of ham and cheese known as the “Manhan” flavor. Each sandwich is priced between 1,600 and 1,800 KRW, which is approximately 45 to 60 TWD—very affordable.
