New Travel Spot in Japan: World’s Largest Hello Kitty Themed Restaurant Opens

When traveling to Kansai, many people visit Awaji Island, a small island not far from Osaka and Kobe, for a simple two-day, one-night trip. On Awaji Island, besides well-known attractions such as the Awaji Yumebutai and the Ocean Dome, recently a brand-new landmark has been added — the world’s largest Hello Kitty themed restaurant, “Hello Kitty Smile.” Located near the coastline, the striking white building shaped like a giant Hello Kitty head is eye-catching and has attracted the attention of many travelers since its opening, becoming a new hot spot for photos.

The HELLO KITTY SMILE restaurant officially opened on April 27, 2018, featuring up to 750 seats in total, and offers dishes made with organic ingredients and local specialties from Awaji Island, especially seafood. The interior design is exquisite, based on white and pink hues. Not only are images of Hello Kitty visible all over the walls, but there is also a large wall of plush toys made up of countless Hello Kitty dolls, providing a perfect backdrop for photos from every angle.
