Mysterious Beauty Island Keelung Islet Reopens After Three Years of Closure

Keelung Islet, a small island off the coast of Keelung, was closed in 2014 after being hit by a typhoon that severely damaged its dock. This February, winter sea waves once again hindered the dock restoration project. After overcoming numerous challenges and completing reconstruction, the mysterious beauty island, closed for three years, will reopen for visitors.

Keelung Islet is a small island formed by an undersea volcanic eruption. It is essentially solidified magma formed upon contact with seawater—an "igneous rock." Constantly shaped by waves and sea winds, it has developed distinctive cliff coastlines. The island is surrounded by steep cliffs with almost no flat land, and features many sea caves and rock reefs, earning it the reputation of a volcanic geological park.

During its closure, Keelung Islet underwent intensive dock repairs and reinforcement, along with the development of various visitor service facilities. It is set to reopen this summer and is highly anticipated by travelers.
