You Can Chase Stars Outside Taipei Too: Taiwan’s Top Five Michelin-Starred Restaurants

After the much-anticipated "Taipei Michelin Guide" was released, a total of 20 restaurants in Taipei earned Michelin stars, attracting foodies on gourmet journeys. But for those craving Michelin-quality cuisine beyond Taipei, Taiwan also has many starred restaurants and dishes, including UKAI TEI, Tim Ho Wan, and Liao Fan Hawker Chan’s Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle.

1. Celebrity Mansion
Celebrity Mansion is a high-end Cantonese restaurant from Hong Kong that has held a Michelin star since 2011. Known as the “hidden culinary master,” Chef Eddy Cheng Kam Fu creates unique dishes using refined Cantonese cooking techniques, seasonal ingredients, and delicate layered seasonings. Celebrity Mansion is located on the 12th floor of the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel in Kaohsiung.

2. UKAI TEI Teppanyaki

In 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Japan sparked global buzz when he and his wife dined at an evening banquet in Tokyo’s Ginza district. This one-Michelin-star teppanyaki restaurant became an overnight sensation. It is the only teppanyaki restaurant in the world to receive Michelin recognition—and its only overseas branch is located at the Silks Club, a luxury hotel in Kaohsiung.

3. PUTIENPutien
Singapore’s original Putien branch, “Ji Zhen Lu Store,” earned one Michelin star in Singapore. Its dishes fuse various Singaporean flavors, with highlights including Crispy Fried Taro Hearts, Premium Spicy Pork Trotters, as well as Singapore’s most famous Chili Crab and Black Pepper Crab. Must-try dishes include “Very Singaporean” and “Top 10 Putien Picks.”

4. Tim Ho Wan
Once hailed as the world’s cheapest Michelin restaurant, Tim Ho Wan held a Michelin one-star rating for six consecutive years. Its dim sum is made to order and steamed fresh, using carefully selected ingredients. The must-try “Four Heavenly Kings” include Baked BBQ Pork Bun, Salted Egg Yolk Pork Liver Sausage, Smooth Malay Cake, and Pan-Fried Radish Cake.
