Takayama, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, is a historic town with 700 years of heritage, boasts a richly diverse natural landscape. Takayama Castle Ruins Park is a nationally renowned cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting around 400,000 domestic and international visitors each year. The cherry blossoms at Takayama Castle Ruins have long been known as the "finest cherry blossoms under heaven" and belong to the variety known as Koeshibazakura (small double-flowered cherry), which are slightly redder in color compared to Somei Yoshino cherries.

April is the peak season for cherry blossoms at Takayama Castle Ruins, with mid-April being the best time for viewing. When in full bloom, the entire park is dyed in light pink, creating a romantic and enchanting atmosphere. At night, when the blossoms are illuminated, the sea of flowers sparkles like a field of light bulbs, transforming the park into a scene reminiscent of the movie Avatar.

Takayama Castle Ruins Park is ranked among Japan’s three most famous cherry blossom spots, alongside Hirosaki Park in Aomori and Yoshino Mountain in Nara. The park is home to over 1,500 cherry trees, including some that are over 130 years old. With the majestic Alps serving as a stunning backdrop, the site captivates visitors who come to admire the blossoms.
