Not just a sea of ten thousand cherry blossoms—three must-see spots in Sanchi

Near the North Coast, New Taipei’s Sanchi area features the Sansheng Trail with its ten thousand cherry trees. Every spring, the beautiful streambanks are covered with blooming pink cherry blossoms, creating one of the most enchanting sights in the region. But aside from enjoying the cherry blossoms on the Sansheng Trail, Sanchi also has many other worthwhile attractions to visit, including the Qianshuiwan seaside views, the popular Shuizhongyang photo spot, and the Coastal Trail—perfect for planning a one-day trip.

1. Balilian Ecological Trail – Full of Old-World Charm
The Balilian River runs through Sanchi District and is the area’s main river. It is said that past settlements relied heavily on this irrigation channel for tasks such as laundry, irrigation, power generation, rice milling, and tea production.

Along the Balilian River lies what is touted as New Taipei City’s longest “Balian Ecological Trail.” Visitors can hike along the stream, surrounded by overlapping green mountains and trees, with crystal-clear waters and a scenic waterwheel ecosystem nestled among the hills—making it one of Sanchi’s most distinctive tourist attractions.
