Golden wheat waves, dreamy blooming flower fields, maze treasure hunts—must-visit photo spots

The annual Daya Wheat Industry Culture Festival is held with great fanfare at Baoxing Temple in Daya District. The event includes sales of local agricultural products, exhibitions of Daya’s three treasures (wheat, buckwheat, and red adzuki beans) as food products, farm equipment displays, treasure hunts, street performances in the wheat fields, hands-on wheat-themed crafts for families, as well as tastings of regional delicacies and home economics class culinary creations to promote Daya’s local agricultural goods.

Taiwan’s second-largest wheat cultivation area after Kinmen, Daya leads the island. Farmers adopt a no-till broadcasting method every November (before the second rice harvest), using fertilizer spreaders to evenly sow wheat seeds among the rice paddies. After the rice is harvested, cut straw is used to cover the seeds, maintaining the moisture needed for germination, preventing bird damage, and saving labor—a highly efficient farming technique.

Now in its 15th year, the Daya Wheat Industry Culture Festival has successfully established Taiwan’s only “Daya Golden Wheat Waves” feature. This year’s festival not only collaborates with the Taichung Flower Expo but also showcases drone farming technology, blending traditional agriculture with cutting-edge innovation to enhance the industry’s added value.
