No longer a terrifying abandoned amusement park — the old park is transformed into Taiwan’s first-ever 3D racetrack

Located in Taichung, Yage Garden is a large garden and a defunct amusement park, situated in the Dakeng Scenic Area. It was once one of the well-known tourist attractions and a childhood memory for many locals in Taichung. After it ceased operations and was abandoned, it was even ranked by British media as the 8th most terrifying abandoned amusement park in the world out of 12. Now, it is rumored that the original site will be redeveloped into Taiwan’s first-ever 3D racetrack.

Yage Garden was known for its variety of flowers, exotic trees, and water dance performances, as well as amusement rides and theatrical song-and-dance shows. It was also one of the filming locations for the large-scale outdoor variety show “百战百胜” (Invincible). However, after the 921 Earthquake, visitor numbers sharply declined, and by 2008, Yage Garden announced its closure, leaving the park abandoned to this day.

After being abandoned for many years, the site became a destination for adventurous visitors and was even selected by British media as one of the world’s haunted abandoned amusement parks. Recently, parts of the park have been partially renovated. A supercar company owner plans to lease the parking lot next to the park and invest in transforming it into a racetrack. Once completed, it will be Taiwan’s only 3D circuit featuring both uphill and downhill sections.

In the future, aside from the racetrack, the operator also stated plans to lease another area of the park to develop it into a hot spring campsite, while preserving and renovating the original amusement facilities, hoping to once again make it a backyard garden for the people of Taichung.
