Loved by Japanese women: A stroll through Yufuin’s mountain hot springs

Originally named “Yufuin,” the town was renamed in 1955 (Showa 30) when Yufuin and the village of Yutagawa merged and became collectively known as Yufuin. However, the train station retained its original name, “Yufuin.” Trains from Fukuoka or Beppu can take you there. From Fukuoka, it takes about two and a half hours on the JR Kyudai Line to reach Yufuin Station. Upon entering the station, to the left, aside from a small tourist information center, a spacious gallery serving as the station waiting area stands out instead. Yufuin cultivates the image of an artistic town, ensuring that visitors can feel it right from the station.

From Yufuin Station, follow the Yufuimichi path to the quaint shops gathered along Yunotsubo Street, and then to Kinrin Lake—all within walking distance. Unique boutique shops, each exuding its own charm amidst the greenery, always captivate travelers, making them stop and often empty their wallets. Many shops place chairs outside for visitors to sit and rest casually, enjoy a freshly bought bread or ice cream.
