Container-style designs were all the rage in 2016, with container-themed restaurants and shops popping up all over Taiwan, becoming popular spots for social media check-ins. ETtoday EBC News gathered a list of this year’s most popular container dining spots—see if you’ve been to them all.

1. Taipei — DeJuice
The juice specialty store “DeJuice,” which just opened during the summer vacation, features a cute black container-style shop exterior. The design was inspired by a trip to South Korea where the owner saw a unique container mall, leading to the decision to go with a container theme for their own business.

The store currently offers two main series: juices and smoothies. Given that many commercial juices on the market contain a lot of added sugar, the owners wanted to create a healthier option. That’s why all juices and smoothies here are made without added sugar or water—instead, they use the natural sweetness of various fruits, extracting the juice and blending it. The result is not only a natural taste but also a dreamy pastel color and delicious flavor that wins over many fans.

2. Taipei — Ada & Yong Café and Tiyuan Jiwu Restaurant
Located on Xinhu 1st Road in Neihu, this spot consists of a glass house café “Ada & Yong Café” and a restaurant “Tiyuan Jiwu” situated on either side, together forming an “ㄇ”-shaped container restaurant. The open space in between is designed as a landscaped garden with seating for visitors to chat and relax.

The biggest draw here is taking photos with the trendy container structures. Many netizens choose to take photos in the central courtyard or outside the uniquely shaped restaurants, capturing the deep blue and gray containers in their shots to create edgy, industrial-style portraits.

3. Taichung — Haohao Xiaoguan
As one of the pioneers of the container trend, Haohao Xiaoguan became a hit with its colorful, pastel-toned containers. To make it even more accessible, the rule requiring customers to purchase food for entry has been changed—now, visitors only need to pay a NT$50 cleaning fee to take photos inside. This is great news for anyone who hasn’t yet captured the perfect container photo. With options including warm yellow, vacation-inspired blue and white, and girlish pink, Haohao Xiaoguan has something for every style—choose your favorite container vibe.

4. Taichung — Tu’er Café
Tu’er Café is Taichung’s first container coffee shop, featuring a sleek black-and-white design. It has two floors: the first floor is a white container, and the second is a black one—both serve as dining areas. In addition to the containers, the café is decked out with industrial-style barrels and seating. Green spaces and pebble flooring add to the natural vibe. What’s more, this is the first café in the area to feature a “bike-through lane,” providing a resting spot for cyclists. Tu’er Café is expected to operate as a pop-up until next March, so be sure to visit before it’s gone.

5. Taichung — Cuboid
This popular Cuboid container drink shop in Taichung is TeaYu Tea, an affordable beverage store mainly selling budget drinks, pancakes, and container ice series. Its exterior is made up of several blue container units and large glass panels. The two-story container setup looks more impressive than a single unit. Additionally, the second floor of the store will be designed as a photo area, allowing customers to stay longer after their meal.

6. Tainan — Day Drink
Day Drink is located on Kangle Street, mainly selling smoothies, fruit shakes, and berry bowls made from fresh fruits. The berry bowl is topped with a generous layer of assorted fruits, with oats at the bottom and a blend of fruits and yogurt in the middle. Its vibrant colors are appetizing.

The shop’s red container unit becomes even more eye-catching under sunlight. The overall decor follows an American style, and there are also seating areas where guests can sit, enjoy their drinks slowly, and take photos. It became a popular spot right after opening.

7. Pingtung Kenting — Caofenmu Yellow's Juice & Smoothie
Caofenmu Yellow's Juice & Smoothie gets its name from the owner’s real name. The owner explained that because her surname is Huang (Yellow), she created a yellow container unit. “Caofenmu” is inspired by the last character of her name, symbolizing the idea of bringing a relaxed feeling to customers’ daily lives.

The shop offers five types of smoothies, two types of shakes, and a popular whole-fruit drink from a while back. All smoothies are made without added sugar or water. Each drink is named after a city the owner has visited, incorporating her impressions of those places to create uniquely flavored smoothies. Drinking each one feels like traveling the world with her.
