Pandora Land took 5 years to build! Disney’s “Avatar Park” to open in 2017

Counting on your fingers, it’s hard to believe that the movie Avatar came out seven years ago—youth really flies. But next year, this film that many have gradually forgotten about might once again make a huge splash. That’s because Orlando Disney Resort has collaborated with the world of the movie Avatar, and the themed park is set to open in the summer of 2017, though the exact date hasn’t been announced yet.

According to the Disney Blog, the construction of the Avatar-themed park “Pandora” has taken nearly five years. Judging by the scale of previous Disney theme parks, you can imagine how massive this one will be. The park will be designed based on scenes from the movie to recreate the environment of Pandora—featuring towering mountains, giant trees, jungles, and more—to immerse visitors in the civilization of the Na’vi. Last weekend, Bob Chapek, CEO of Disney Resorts, unveiled the latest details at D23’s Destination D. The “Bridge” will serve as an entrance that transports guests to the planet Alpha Centauri.

Chapek also announced that Pandora will feature a food retail location called Satu’li Canteen, where visitors can appreciate the art and culture of the Na’vi and purchase related merchandise. The sequels to Avatar are set to begin filming in 2017, with the first installment expected to be released around Christmas 2018. Although there’s over a year between the opening of the theme park and the movie release, it’s almost certain that another wave of enthusiasm will follow.
