Warm and Cozy Abashiri!” The Abashiri Warmth Festival, held every year from late January to early March in Abashiri, is a wonderful event meticulously planned against the backdrop of the frozen northern wilderness. Yet unlike others, it warms the heart through its promotions and activities, making you eager to dive into sub-zero temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius or lower to experience the most spirited winter ever!

In Hokkaido, when winter arrives, heavy snow blankets the land. Locals have thus created several distinctive winter carnivals set against this icy, snowy northern landscape. Among them, the Abashiri Warmth Festival is an unmissable and thrilling carnival to experience. The festival takes place at Lake Abashiri. Around December, the lake gradually begins to freeze over. By January to March, when the ice becomes thick and solid enough, the lake enters its liveliest time of the year.
