Entering its 8th edition, the “2010 Alishan New Year Greeting & Sunrise Music Concert” will take place on January 1st and 2nd at Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Why not head up the mountain and welcome the new year with fresh aspirations amidst soft melodies?

This year’s event is themed “Hope,” praying for happiness and optimism for all in the coming year. The concert returns to nature by presenting “High Mountain Music,” with performances and dance shows held successively at several locations within Alishan Forest Recreation Area, including Mt. Ogasawara, Zhushan Waiting Shelter, the Visitor Center, and Xianglin Sacred Tree Area, offering attendees a heartwarming musical feast.

The performances include flute solos by Chen Liming, principal flutist of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, a New Year’s greeting concert, an exciting Tsou ethnic song and dance carnival, refreshing world highland music, and string music performances. Female vocal group Zhu Nü Meisheng and duo Orion will also deliver touching songs. This year, an indigenous band from Mexico will also perform, bringing a unique South American flair to the event.

When visiting Alishan Forest Recreation Area, start with the Sister Ponds, then explore along the route including Guangwu Cypress, Millennial Cypress, the First Giant Tree Trail, the Tree Spirit Pagoda, Four Sisters, Three Brothers, the Alishan Sacred Tree Site, Shouzhen Temple, and Ciyun Temple.
