Shining at the Shanghai Expo: Lin Chi-ling Leads Goodwill Ambassador Group in Debut

With the countdown to the 2010 Shanghai Expo officially entering its final 100 days, national pavilions have begun to make their appearances one after another. The Taiwan Pavilion has also stunningly debuted with its giant lantern-like exterior design, based on the concept of “Mountain, Water, Heart, and Lamp.” After days of selection, the important group of goodwill ambassadors made their debut, led by Taiwan Pavilion spokesperson Lin Chi-ling, who will represent Taiwan on the international stage in the future.

The 16 selected members of the goodwill ambassador group, chosen through a rigorous selection process, will undergo a series of comprehensive professional training courses. During their time at the pavilion, they will showcase the warm, enthusiastic, and hospitable spirit of the Taiwanese people, welcoming distinguished guests from around the world who visit the Taiwan Pavilion. The 12 lantern blessing phrases symbolizing the New Year wishes of the Taiwanese people in 2010 were also voted on by the public, with “Family Safety” and “Economic Takeoff” receiving the highest number of votes. These 12 phrases, representing the hopes and blessings of the Taiwanese people, will be displayed inside the Taiwan Pavilion during the Expo, conveying Taiwan’s prayers and love for the world.

The exterior design of the Taiwan Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo is themed around “Mountain, Water, Heart, and Lamp,” using the meanings of lantern blessings and spiritual purification to promote the new spirit of Taiwan to the world. In addition to the goodwill ambassador selection event, the Taipei World Trade Center also launched an online voting campaign on its official website titled “Wishing for Taiwan, Dreams Take Flight – Lantern Blessing Phrases for the Expo Taiwan Pavilion.” The 12 blessing phrases—“Family Safety,” “Economic Takeoff,” “National Peace and Prosperity,” “Happiness and Harmony,” “Dreams Come True,” “Travel the World,” “Abundance in Clothing and Food,” “Love and Peace,” “Safety and Health Forever,” “Favorable Weather and Prosperous Harvests,” “A Promising Future,” and “World Peace”—symbolize the New Year wishes of the Taiwanese people in 2010.

These 12 lantern blessing phrases will be written by three highly representative and renowned calligraphers from Taiwan. Their distinctive ink artworks will also be displayed inside the Taiwan Pavilion, conveying love and blessings for the world. In addition to viewing the giant glass lampshade and the interactive LED sphere exhibit inside, visitors can also appreciate the beauty of calligraphy.
