Stroll through a dreamy sea of lights as the 2010 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival & Art Festival kicks off

The bustling Lantern Festival is about to arrive, and lantern festivals across Taiwan are gearing up to showcase their most beautiful displays, captivating the public with romantic seas of lights and lantern riddle activities. This year, the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival debuts alongside an art festival, with the light displays along both banks of the Love River designed around themes of love and happiness, creating a dazzling and romantic sea of lights. The event features uniquely themed lantern displays and a rich variety of programs, promising visitors many rare and one-of-a-kind experiences unique to Taiwan.

The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival has always been full of endless creativity and excitement, and this year introduces the "Happy Greater Kaohsiung" float, showcasing the city’s most famous attractions—from the Kaohsiung MRT, Shoushan Zoo, Dream Mall Ferris Wheel, and the World Games Main Stadium to the locally folkloric Neimen Songjiang Battle Array—bringing together the pride of both Kaohsiung City and County on one float. From now until March 7, the Happy Greater Kaohsiung float will parade daily alongside the Philippine National Arts Troupe, starting from True Love Pier, moving to Glory Pier, and then continuing to the high-altitude acrobatic dance carnival by the Love River on Hehe Road.

This year’s event includes a bay main lantern sound-and-light theater fireworks show, gourmet food fair, Janfusun Ferris Wheel amusement area, Six Nations International Specialty Lantern Area, lantern competition area, and a world street performance spectacular, among many other themed programs. The most unmissable highlights are the romantic sea of lights at Glory Pier and along both banks of the Love River.

Upon entering Glory Pier, the “I♥KH” installation welcomes all visitors at the entrance; next comes “Love in the Harbor,” which not only wraps around the entire Glory Pier but also expresses the deep affection for the mountain-and-harbor city of Kaohsiung; strolling along the railway bridge “Winter Love Song,” you’ll admire the beauty of a snow-covered world like a silver realm. Continuing toward Riverside Park, “Happy Farm” brings the abundance of harvest to life, letting you experience endless joy and fulfillment; on Wufu Bridge, pairs of “Wings of Love” symbolize flying hand-in-hand toward a happy future.

On Haian Road in the Love River area, the “Love River Sprite” radiates the true essence of love; on Hedong Road, the lively “Ruyi Tiger at Play” is brimming with energy, innocence, and hope; “Source of Happiness” represents an ever-flowing vitality; “Prosperous Kaohsiung City” exudes a strong New Year atmosphere on Hedong Road; located on Zhongzheng Bridge, “New Love for Kaohsiung” shines with the pride of being in Kaohsiung; on Hexi Road, “True-hearted Kaohsiung” fully showcases the city’s warmth, kindness, and beauty; while “Playful Kaohsiung” is filled with freshness and surprises.
