Who’s the fairest in the frame? North Scenic Area offers NT$100,000 prize for stunning photos

Blessed with natural advantages, Taipei not only boasts the convenience of a capital city but also surrounds itself with Yangmingshan National Park and the North Coast, offering countless surprising travel destinations. Especially along the northern coastline, the rich and diverse natural scenery and cultural resources are like gems in a crown, adding dazzling brilliance to the pristine beauty of the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area.

The beautiful coastal views along the North Coast have successfully been developed into a hot spot for wedding photography in recent years. Against the backdrop of blue skies, greenery, and white sands, any shot can capture the joy of couples. This year marks the sixth edition of the “North Coast Wedding Portrait Photography Competition” organized by the North Scenic Area Administration. From now until August 8, couples are invited to take photos at Mediterranean-style Shimen Wedding Square, Sanzhi Shallows Bay, and Lingshan Nose, among others. Through the lens, the azure sky and crystal-clear sea together witness unforgettable romances. The photography competition features as many as 30 awards, with a grand cash prize of NT$100,000 waiting for photography enthusiasts.

April and May are eagle-watching seasons on Guanyin Mountain. This year’s “Guanyin Eagle Watching” events will take place on April 10, April 11, April 18, April 25, and May 2. The activities include an ecological sketching competition, guided nature interpretation tours, interactive game checkpoints, and a fun farmers' market, offering both entertaining and educational experiences suitable for visitors of all ages. On April 10, the opening ceremony will be held in conjunction with the ecological park and farmers’ market. Simply fill out a lottery ticket upon arrival to have a chance to win great prizes such as foldable bikes, MP3 players, and farmers’ market vouchers.

The North Coast, nestled between mountains and sea, and the lush greenery of Guanyin Mountain are both destinations worth exploring. Other 2010 events hosted by the North Scenic Area Administration include the June North Coast Sea Music Festival and the November Jinshan-Wanli-Bali Hot Spring Festival. In other seasons, whether you’re cycling to enjoy nature, strolling through old streets to sample local cuisine, or hiking to breathe in phytoncides, there are plenty of ways to fall in love with the North Scenic Area.
