Stars gather to light up Orchid Island – 2010 Penghu Fireworks Festival Goes All Out

Penghu’s biggest tourism event, the “Penghu Fireworks Festival,” is gearing up as temperatures gradually warm up. This year, the countdown has officially begun. From April 24 to May 31, Penghu will be bathed in a romantic sea of fireworks. The opening ceremony will even feature performances by the popular band Sodagreen, set to ignite the nights of Magong with the vibrant energy unique to Penghu’s summer.

Every May is Penghu’s most dazzling season. In just 900 seconds away from the mainland, the fireworks over the Xiying Rainbow Bridge near Guanyin Pavilion Recreation Area will paint the night sky in a kaleidoscope of colors. Each year brings innovative fireworks displays that never fail to leave tens of thousands of spectators in awe. Originally scheduled for May 29, this year’s closing ceremony has been extended to May 31, thanks to overwhelming public enthusiasm. Organizers have decided to add an extra fireworks show as a bonus.

From April 24 to May 29, fireworks shows will take place every Wednesday and Saturday. Among these, the most locally distinctive event is on May 29, set to unfold in front of Zihwei Temple in Suogang, Magong. That day also marks a local divine parade, with all temple performance troupes taking part—making it one of Magong’s most spectacular events. Coinciding with the area’s annual folk celebration, visitors can enjoy this grand competition of traditional parade performances.

This year’s Penghu Fireworks Festival promises an unprecedentedly spectacular display, continuing to push the boundaries with even more impressive fireworks to dazzle the audience. The unique style and passionate musical energy of the band Sodagreen will further enrich the festival experience. Getting to Penghu is most convenient by plane, but flights during the fireworks season can be hard to book. Travelers are advised to take the high-speed rail to Chiayi Taibao Station and then transfer to a shuttle bus to Budai Port, where ferries depart for Magong Island.
