The Gundam Café has opened, gathering fans to make a pilgrimage together::Akihabara::Mobile Suit

If visiting maid cafés in Akihabara isn't enough for you, now you have a brand-new option. The long-awaited Gundam Café by Bandai, Japan’s comprehensive entertainment company, has officially opened. Located near the Akihabara subway exit on the electronics street, the entire café is themed around the company’s ultra-popular anime from 1979—Mobile Suit Gundam. Everything from the exterior to the interior décor is connected to the Gundam anime storyline. Not only is the exterior design cutting-edge and futuristic, but the façade alone is highly “anime visuals,” giving the impression of stepping into a “spaceship.” Inside, the cool, tech-inspired seating area offers a refreshing visual experience, different from the typically elegant, cozy, and romantic ambiance of Japanese cafés, which may make otaku feel even more at home.

In fact, for Mobile Suit fans, this is a treasure trove. It offers a unique history of the Mobile Suit series, displays various Gundam models and illustrations, and frequently plays related animations and news. The entire café serves as both a Gundam real-life experience spot and a hub for gathering first-hand information and exchanging intelligence. According to Bandai, some of the first releases of future Gundam-related products will be available here.

Interestingly, the café staff not only wear uniforms inspired by characters from the anime, which otaku will find very relatable, but also create an immediate illusion of stepping into the anime world. Moreover, the meals and coffee beans here are all closely tied to Gundam storyline elements. For example, the special blend—JABURO—made from carefully selected South American coffee beans was named after the fictional base in the series, which is located in South America. Additionally, there are Gundam-shaped cakes and cookies that are almost too cute to eat.

This café has already sparked discussions among Mobile Suit anime fans, and the opening day saw long lines of visitors coming to pay homage.
