The Shanghai Expo has kicked off — join travel expert King G as he shows you how to make the most of it
The globally anticipated "2010 Shanghai World Expo" has officially begun. As the expo closest to Taiwan, it will run for 184 days and is expected to attract 70 million visitors. Lion Travel has specially invited King G, former host of the TV show "Taiwan Footsteps Across the Mainland," to guide the trip. King G had just returned from the Shanghai Expo’s trial operation in late April, bringing back the latest firsthand expo news. Among the 242 expo pavilions, the Taiwan Pavilion was the one that moved him the most — a shining pearl. Though some say the Taiwan Pavilion, with its square base and spherical top, resembles a giant toilet from the outside, that’s how it looks during the day. At night, when LED lighting effects kick in, the image of a sky lantern immediately emerges, continuously showcasing Taiwan’s urban charm and picturesque landscapes. Just this scene alone brought King G to tears with the beauty of the Taiwan Pavilion’s “Mountain-Water Heart Lamp.”
Shanghai, geographically and spiritually, is the “world-class” city closest to Taipei — ancient yet modern, a hub of diverse cuisines and the latest in cultural events. Beyond the Taiwan Pavilion, if time is limited, King G highly recommends visiting pavilions in Zone C such as Spain, the UK, and the Netherlands, where unique green energy technologies are on display and worth seeing.

This expo, the largest and most expensive in history, will not only feature King G’s “Two Generations, Two Cities” guided itinerary but also include special theme tours like “Fashionable Shanghai Expo” and “Gourmet Shanghai Expo,” curated by fashion and food bloggers. With experts leading the way, these tours offer unique perspectives and deeper local experiences for travelers.
