New Charm of Wujing: The Kinmen International Culture and Arts Festival Kicks Off
Kinmen, an offshore island formerly known as "Wujing," boasts not only the wartime ambiance of military tunnels and the architectural elegance of century-old Western-style buildings and traditional houses, but also excels in preserving and passing on local cultural and artistic heritage. The annual "International Culture and Arts Festival," which continues to drive historical legacy and innovation, made its grand debut on May 14 this year. The Kinmen County Government specially planned a series of performances by international art troupes, and also incorporated the local folk tradition of the City God Welcoming Ceremony, expanding the event into the "2010 Kinmen International Culture and Arts Festival" to recreate the charm of Wujing Island.

This year marks the 330th anniversary of the City God’s Birthday in Kinmen. In keeping with the festival’s tradition of preserving cultural heritage while continuously innovating, the 2010 Kinmen International Culture and Arts Festival is themed “Charming Wujing: Art Dedicated to the City God.” It presents a new image of Kinmen through diverse forms of expression, showcasing the scenery of Wujing Island. Performance troupes from eight different countries also came to entertain, including Bolivia (Andes Ensemble), Central and South America (Indigenous Music Ensemble), Mexico (Mexican Music Ensemble), Brazil (Samba Dance Troupe), Spain (Latin Salsa Dance Troupe), Paraguay (Paraguayan Traditional Dance Troupe), Xiamen, China (Apple), alongside the local traditional City God Welcoming Ceremony, all joining together to celebrate the innovative showcase of Kinmen’s international culture and arts.
In addition to inheriting and continuing traditional culture and arts, the "2010 Kinmen International Culture and Arts Festival" this year also specially combines the traditional folk City God Welcoming Ceremony. The event features an unprecedented million-dollar spectacular water dance stage and dazzling fireworks display, along with a creative carnival market, creating a brand-new Kinmen Culture and Arts Festival. In addition to performances by international troupes, many well-known artists such as Pang An, Yoga Lin, Pan Yuwen, Lin Hsin-yi, A Cheng, Fu Chiong-yin, Li Dehui, Wu Jiahui, Huang Shanliang, Huang Fei, and Shisan Band will also perform.
The Architectural Charm of Kinmen’s Wartime Structures
During the Kinmen International Culture and Arts Festival, renowned traditional Taiwanese theater troupes such as Ming Hua Yuan, the Heavenly Voice Women’s Orchestra, the Magic Babies Brass Ensemble, the Exquisite Women’s String Orchestra, the Harry Magic Performance Troupe, the Flower Mom Performance Troupe, Andy's Band, Tianjue Band, Sauce Band, as well as local performance groups, will provide visitors with a spectacular audiovisual experience.
