“There are some things you never do, and then they’re gone forever!” This classic line from the movie *Island Etude* has inspired many to dream of cycling around Taiwan. Even though the nearly 1,000-kilometer journey presents numerous physical challenges, more and more parents are now choosing to endure the hardships with their children, creating unforgettable, passionate memories together.

Last year, the Sports Affairs Council launched the “Cycling Coming-of-Age Ceremony” for 20-year-olds. After completing a one-week island-wide bike ride, nearly a hundred participating students felt it was an enriching and rewarding experience. This summer, the Taiwan Bicycle Culture Foundation, in collaboration with Giant Travel Service, has organized a 9-day “Family Cycling Coming-of-Age Ceremony” event, aiming to reignite the trend of family cycling, encourage families to spend time outdoors, bring biking into family life, and help children learn the spirit of challenging themselves, persevering, and self-discipline.
The 9-day, 8-night “Family Cycling Coming-of-Age Ceremony” covers a total of 912 kilometers around the island, starting from Xindian and passing through Hsinchu, Lukang, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Sihchongxi, Zhiben, Ruisui, Luodong, and back to Xindian, effectively cycling around Taiwan in reverse chronological direction from Taipei. Participating children must be at least 10 years old, join with their family, and have the stamina to bike 100 kilometers in a single day. The activity runs from July 3 to 11, with a cost of NT$9,800 per person (for a 4-person room). The fee includes: energy supply materials, bicycle maintenance, rental of professional bikes and helmets, support vehicle, luggage vehicle, cycling activity documentary, service personnel fees, listed accommodation and meals, insurance, and a certificate of completing the island tour.

During the summer vacation, the Taiwan Bicycle Culture Foundation has also planned two 4-day, 3-night “Hualien Mountain & Sea Adventure: A Healthy Cycling Summer Camp” sessions from July 5 to 8 and July 12 to 15. Elementary school students interested in exploring Hualien’s beautiful mountains and seas can take this opportunity to bike, play in the water, soak up the sun, and watch airplanes, experiencing the joy of life in Taiwan’s hinterland.
