2010 Shouguang River Rafting Tourism Season – Experience the Most Thrilling Ironman Event

Dubbed as Taiwan’s most beautiful triathlon-style rafting event, this year’s race will kick off at the picturesque Shouguang River Rafting Center. The event begins with an 11-kilometer team rafting challenge that lets participants experience the stunning craftsmanship of nature along the Shouguang River. This is followed by a 12.6-kilometer trail run along the winding and rugged Ruigang Highway that hugs the mountains, featuring steep canyons, meandering curves, and river terraces that will put participants’ endurance to the test. The finale is a 44-kilometer cycling race along the wind-swept coastal roads of Provincial Highway 11, where riders race alongside the sea and mountains, with breathtaking views of the majestic Pacific Ocean and the beautiful East Coast scenery.

The excitement of the Shouguang River Rafting Tourism Season will continue through mid-August. In conjunction with the rafting season, an online photo contest is being held, eagerly seeking photos of rafting adventures on the Shouguang River. Anyone who went rafting on the Shouguang River in Hualien between May and mid-August can participate. From now until August 15, simply upload your photos to the official website of the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, and you could win one of 10 lucky prizes: a worth NT$10,000 Eastern Taiwan travel package. Lucky winners can once again immerse themselves in the embrace of the East Coast, enjoying the leisurely beauty of Hualien and Taitung’s landscapes and taking a relaxing stroll along the golden shoreline.

To encourage more people across Taiwan to experience the joy of rafting on the Shouguang River, in addition to the triathlon event, fun rafting experiences have been arranged for the general public to join in the fun on June 20 and experience the excitement of rafting on the Shouguang River. All participants in the Ironman group, the fun rafting experience group, or those who join the Double B Package Tour on June 20 will receive a high-quality MERRELL commemorative T-shirt worth NT$1,430 upon successful registration. Limited quantities are available and will be given out while supplies last. There’s also a chance to win the currently super-popular iPad.
