Stroll through Pinglin, savor tea aroma — Win NT$10,000 in a colorful spring tea sketching contest

With its beautiful mountains and waters plus the fragrant and sweet Wenshan Baozhong tea, Pinglin is known as the “Tea Town.” Even after the opening of the Xueshan Tunnel reduced the prosperity once brought by the Suhua Highway, local residents have organized the popular “Pinglin Low-Carbon Tour” using existing environments and resources. This year’s Pinglin Baozhong Tea Festival incorporates the low-carbon theme, with events including “Old Street Nostalgia and Toy Day” on May 29, “Tea Merchant Mazu Blessing Day” on May 30, “Low-Carbon Tourism Environment Day” on June 5, and “Waterside Afternoon Tea Style Day” on June 6.

The “Old Street Nostalgia and Toy Day” includes making nostalgic bamboo board commemorative postcards. After completing them on-site, visitors can mail them from the local Pinglin post office with a Pinglin postmark to prove they’ve visited, or give them to family and friends as memories. A limited 500 postcards are available daily, totaling 2,000 over four days, while supplies last. The “Tea Merchant Mazu Blessing Day” allows visitors to pray for blessings and safety, with special blessing cards included as free gifts — exclusive to Pinglin and highly collectible. A limited 1,000 blessing cards are available on May 30, while supplies last. On June 5, “Low-Carbon Tourism Environment Day” coincides with World Environment Day; those who fill out a carbon reduction pledge will receive a camellia sapling, beautifying the earth while enjoying nature. A limited 500 camellia saplings will be given out that day, while supplies last. In line with the June 6 theme “Waterside Afternoon Tea Style Day,” limited exotic rose saplings will also be given away.

Additionally, the organizers are holding the “Colorful Spring Tea — Sketching Competition” with a top prize of NT$10,000, a “Tea-Making Experience Camp,” the “Pinglin Eco Hiking Tour” on June 5, and the essay activity “100 Reasons to Stroll Through Pinglin.” Submissions may win lucky bags or healthy tea meals. During the event, anyone spending NT$100 or more will have a chance to win great prizes such as electric-assist bicycles, digital cameras, travel accommodation vouchers, tea meals, Pinglin Baozhong tea, Pinglin tea soap, Taiwan Agricultural Cold Brew Tea bags, Tea Village Wenshan Baozhong Tea Noodles, and 2010 Flower Expo tickets.
