The Aesthetics of Zongzi: Taiwanese Creative Zongzi vs. Thai Royal Zongzi
As summer begins after the Start of Summer solar term and the Dragon Boat Festival draws near, in addition to fiercely competitive dragon boat races, wearing scented sachets to ward off evil, standing an egg at noon, and drinking noon water, the indispensable star of the season—the zongzi—is also here. Hotel operators have launched zongzi featuring specialties from across China and the East-West fusion, while Thai restaurants have introduced specially made meat zongzi inspired by Thai royal cuisine, kicking off a magical and delicious prelude to the vibrant summer season.
Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Taichung)’s Dim Sum House will offer “Dragon Boat Festival Fragrant Zongzi” until June 16, focusing on healthy and wellness options. In addition to best-selling products that have been loved for 18 years such as Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice Zongzi, Fragrant Taiwan Abalone Zongzi, and Vegetarian Luohan Zongzi, there are also newly developed flavors like Red Sorghum Beef Zongzi and Eight-Treasure Health Zongzi. The Dragon Boat Festival Fragrant Zongzi starts at 90 NTD per piece, with multiple basket options available. The Zongzi Gift Basket starts at 880 NTD per box, and includes a complimentary chef’s secret chili sauce or XO sauce to enhance the flavor. Orders over 4,000 NTD qualify for free home delivery. This year, Taipei Fuhang Grand Hotel presents Huzhou-style, Cantonese-style, and brand-new creative zongzi. In addition to traditional flavors, the Fuhang chef team has newly introduced varieties such as Zhuangyuan Jidi Zongzi (Number One Scholar Zongzi), Cherry Leaf Rose Lychee Zongzi, and Cherry Leaf Korean Spicy Zongzi. The Taipei Fuhang Jiangnan Huzhou Zongzi Gift Box and Cantonese Glutinous Rice Zongzi Gift Box are each priced at 680 NTD, while the newly launched Cherry Leaf Q Zongzi Gift Box is 450 NTD per box—making them the perfect choice for enjoying and gifting zongzi with your family.
