Show your creativity—Alishan Forestry Centennial Celebration gifts NT$1 million

Since the Japanese colonial period, Alishan has been an important hub for forestry development. Along with the natural landscapes of Alishan Forest such as the sea of clouds, sunrise, and sunset, Alishan carries a profound cultural atmosphere, thus becoming a uniquely distinctive international tourist destination. To showcase the value and historical significance of Alishan’s century-long forestry development, the Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau specially organized the “Alishan Forestry Centennial Memorial Object Student Design Competition” this year, offering a generous grand prize of NT$1 million to collect outstanding creative works commemorating Alishan’s forestry centennial, preserving a century of historical testimony.

The launch event of the “Alishan Forestry Centennial Memorial Object Student Design Competition” was met with great enthusiasm. In addition to inviting distinguished guests, it also featured performances by the Chiayi County Wuzi City Daxiang Elementary School String Puppet Troupe, which won the “National Creative Puppetry Competition Special Award” and the “Shinzhuan Cup Dragon and Lion Dance Championship” double honors, along with puppetry expert Teacher Huang Xianzhang. Multiple teachers and students manipulated puppets individually to narrate the century-long cultural and historical development of Alishan’s forestry through the puppets, accompanied by a landscape video introducing the planned site for the Alishan Forestry Centennial Memorial Object, creating a deeply historical and atmospheric experience.

The railway that witnessed Alishan’s history

The “Alishan Forestry Centennial Memorial Object Student Design Competition” runs from now until August 31, spanning three months. The planned setting for the Alishan Forestry Centennial Memorial Object is primarily centered around the “Log Collection Machine Display Area in Alishan Forest Recreation Area,” extending outward to a nearby area totaling approximately 0.18 hectares. In addition to allowing the public to witness the century-long cultural history of Alishan’s forestry development through this event, it also incorporates the creative design ingenuity of students, adding a touch of youthfulness to the historically significant Alishan.
