The number of Taiwanese travelers visiting Japan has hit record highs year after year, with large theme parks such as Disneyland and Universal Studios being the most popular among visitors. With the upcoming official opening of the LEGO Land in Nagoya, this article rounds up the top three newest entertainment highlights in Japan for 2017. Be sure to plan your trip ahead and be among the first to experience them when they open！

1. Nagoya　LEGO Land
The world-renowned large-scale theme park “LEGO Land” will officially open in Nagoya on April 1, 2017, making Japan home to yet another major theme park following Disneyland and Universal Studios, and also the 8th LEGO Land in the world.

Nagoya’s LEGO Land is located at Nagoya Port, covering an area of 93,000 square meters. The park is divided into six zones: LEGO City, Adventure Land, MINILAND, LEGO Kingdom, LEGO Factory, and the Shopping Street. Due to its location in Nagoya, it features a 2-meter-tall LEGO recreation of Nagoya Castle built using over 220,000 LEGO bricks. In addition, there are various LEGO-themed rides and attractions, including roller coasters.

2. Universal Studios Japan　The world’s largest Minion Park
In spring 2017, the world’s largest Minion Park will open at Universal Studios Japan, featuring the highly immersive ride “Minion Mayhem” as its centerpiece. Visitors will board a specially designed vehicle invented by the mischievous Gru, spinning through his lab while suddenly accelerating or flipping upside down—it’s an ultra-exciting experience set to debut next spring.

3. Universal Studios Japan　“Universal Cool Japan 2017”
Starting January 13 of next year, the annual “Universal Cool Japan” special event series at Universal Studios Japan will feature for the first time a real-life escape game based on the popular anime Detective Conan, titled “Detective Conan: THE ESCAPE.” Participants will work with the main characters to solve mysteries and escape from dangerous situations.

Also making their debut are attractions such as “Godzilla THE REAL 4-D,” “Evangelion XR Ride,” “Sengoku Basara THE REAL,” and “Monster Hunter THE REAL,” all available for a limited time starting January 13, 2017.

Additionally, as part of the “Universal Cool Japan 2017” series, Universal Studios Japan is holding for the first time a special event venue outside the park grounds, at Nishinomaru Garden of Osaka Castle. It will feature the world premiere live-action stage performance “Sengoku THE REAL at Osaka Castle,” combining live singing and dancing, music, 3D mapping projections, and fireworks to recreate the famous Japanese historical battle “The Siege of Osaka.” There will also be a “Rakugo Rakujyo” market offering a variety of specialty foods, taking visitors back in time to the Sengoku period in an instant.
