The 2010 Nantou Train Festival: Enter the World of Thomas the Tank Engine
The most popular summer event for both kids and adults, the "2010 Nantou Train Festival – Thomas Is Back," a railway-themed event, will be held grandly from July 10 to August 8 in areas such as Mingjian, Jiji, Shuili, and Zhongliao. This year, the iconic steam locomotive CK124 will also make a comeback as part of the railway-themed activities, inviting the public to experience Nantou’s unique railway culture journey.

Since its launch in 2007, the "Nantou Train Festival" has become one of the most anticipated summer events for the public. This year, the event continues to be represented by the fan-favorite Thomas the Tank Engine, featuring a Thomas-themed exhibition hall showcasing various classic scenes of Thomas trains and model trains. Combined with the in-depth railway-themed exhibition at Jiji Station, visitors can enjoy the nostalgic and story-filled journey along the beloved Jiji Line.
The theme at Zhuoshui Station on the Jiji Line is "Happy Island Station," which hosts the Thomas the Tank Engine exhibition hall. In addition to various cartoon scenes and interactive games, this year marks the 65th anniversary of Thomas the Tank Engine. On-site, there will be a limited-edition 65th-anniversary Thomas train and model trains, air-freighted from the UK to Taiwan. The Jiji Station theme hall, filled with the nostalgic charm of Taiwanese railways, displays a variety of retro railway artifacts. A rare creative tea-brewing demonstration using Taiwanese Railway elements will also be recreated here. At Checheng Station, visitors can explore the cultural history of the Jiji Line from its inception to the present, feeling as though they’ve stepped into a time tunnel.

Another highlight this year is the “Stay in Nantou, Ride CK124 for Free” campaign. Railway enthusiasts who stay at any legally registered accommodation within Nantou County during the event period can receive free round-trip tickets based on their room type and the number of occupants. The classic CK124 steam train will run every Sunday from July 10 to August 8, with one morning and one afternoon trip per day, totaling 10 trips. Each trip includes either a round-trip between Ershui Station and Zhuoshui Station (Thomas main exhibition hall), or between Zhuoshui Station and Longquan Station (Green Tunnel), with a limit of 200 passengers per trip. During the event period, there’s also the "Footprint Train Festival – Collect Stamps for Prizes," where children can collect three stamps from three different zones during the event period by presenting the event flyer to enter a lucky draw. Photography enthusiasts can participate in the "Come Shoot Together – Photography Competition" to test their skills by capturing the beautiful scenery of Nantou, with a chance to win a cash prize of up to NT$10,000 ! Railway enthusiasts and fans of Thomas the Tank Engine are encouraged to take a weekend trip to the scenic beauty of Nantou. Aside from experiencing the local railway culture, visitors can also tour places like Jiji and Shuili, enjoying a holiday filled with the freshness of nature.
