Dancing in Hawaii: The Royal Court Hula Festival on Oahu

When you come to Hawaii, you're bound to experience the passion of Hawaiians wearing flower garlands and long skirts as they dance—that's the iconic Hawaiian dance, hula！Hawaii holds a grand hula festival celebration every year, featuring both classical hula and modern, innovative hula performances. Now in its 32nd year, the event has attracted visitors from around the world.

In the past, hula was a religious dance for warriors and monks. Dancers used graceful hand movements and swaying bodies to perform hula, accompanied by lively chants and musical instruments to create a joyful atmosphere. At the festival, men and women also decorate themselves with feathers and flowers, dancing passionately to showcase the vibrant energy of the island nation. This year’s hula festival will also feature limited-edition T-shirts and souvenirs on sale, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the non-profit Moanalua Gardens Foundation.
