Showcasing the beauty of eastern Taiwan to the world — the East Coast International Light Spots initiative has launched!
Taitung’s exceptional natural scenery fosters a rich tapestry of indigenous music. Visiting the Hualien-Taitung area lets you enjoy an unhurried lifestyle amid pristine nature and feel the charm of indigenous culture. The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is driving its “International Light Spots Project,” with its first stop in eastern Taiwan. Linking Taitung, Port of Taitung, Chishang, and Hualien, this initiative promotes slow travel, allowing visitors to bask in the most natural and genuine way of life.

“Taitung Light Spot” — Tiehua Village is a music performance venue that brings together artists from eastern Taiwan. Led by Hu Defu, performances take place Tuesday through Sunday, providing a platform for indigenous musicians to showcase and pass on their musical heritage, letting the world hear the most authentic and beautiful sounds. “Slow Market” is a marketplace where you can shop for Taitung’s unique local products. The “Taitung City Zhengqi Road Night Market” operates every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evening, featuring 135 food stalls and vendors, making Taitung’s nights just as lively and fun!

In addition to the “Taitung Light Spot — Tiehua Village,” the project will also feature “Chishang Light Spot,” themed around the four seasons; “Port of Taitung Light Spot,” highlighting creative cuisine by indigenous master chefs and the scenic beauty of Bagalang Houseboats; and “Hualien Light Spot,” operated in collaboration with O’rip Life Traveler Studio. These four light spots form the “East Coast International Light Spots,” showcasing the region’s rich diversity.
When visiting Taitung, you can also hop on the Taroko Express “Slow Life Train” launched by Taiwan Railways. The train runs four days a week, with three daily round trips between Dawu and Chishang. From August 10 through the end of the year, a one-day pass for NT$150 and a three-day pass for NT$400 are available, allowing unlimited rides and encouraging travelers to explore at a leisurely pace through slow, immersive tourism.
